Tuffpak Packing Tips

TIPS FOR PACKING YOUR TUFFPAK HARD GUN CASE

You are starting with an empty case that weighs 17 pounds. Here is how I pack mine.

  • First, I use our Tuffsak, large nylon duffel that goes inside the Tuffpak. It has a double side zipper, drawstring top and large web carry strap.
  • Now we are going to call your hard case (Tuffpak) the bun of the hot dog! The Tuffsak is now the wiener that goes inside the (Tuffpak) bun.
  • I pack my firearms in soft cases and put them muzzle down inside the wiener.
  • I now put all my clothing inside large zip lock bags, 39-gallon trash sacks, or the plastic covers from the dry cleaners that come over the dry cleaning. The clothes are the relish on the OUTSIDE of the wiener. The wiener has nothing but firearms inside.

Here is the reason for all this. When you have to do ‘show and tell’ at the airport or customs you need only to remove the top from your Tuffpak hard gun case (the bun) and undo the drawstring top on the duffle (the wiener), then you unzip your soft case and pull the firearm out enough to show it is unloaded. You should not have to remove the firearm from the hard case. When you go to shove the firearm back into the soft case you should have no problems as nothing can collapse under your wiener to prevent you from putting the firearms back in with ease. If you arrive at your hunting destination and the pilot of your small plane says he has no room for hard cases just remove the wiener from the bun, throw all your clothing (the relish) inside the wiener and you now have a soft case only. By placing all the clothing in plastic bags you will find they find their own place to ride inside the bun. The plastic also prevents any spills from anything from getting on your clothing and the clothing arrives less wrinkled. I purchased a lockable metal cash box at my office supply store. I removed the plastic change tray and inside is where my ammo goes. Locked, inside a metal case. This metal case then goes at the bottom of my Tuffpak hard gun case along with shoes, coats etc. and the Tuffsak (wiener) is then placed inside atop all that. My ammo is not with my firearms. It is in a separate locked metal case that just happens to be packed in my checked luggage. So far, this has always worked fine.

Thanks for using the one of kind Tuffpak hard gun case!
Have a great hunt and better tomorrows!
